A tour of the exhibition with its curator Mariusz Knorowski. During the tour we will learn about the origins of the display and about the favourite places visited by Ryszard Kaja and the subjects he took up in the posters that form the “Polska” cycle.

 

75 minutes / tickets priced at 12 and 8 zł on sale from 2 July at the ticket desk of Muzeum Plakatu in Wilanów.

 

 

The “Polska” cycle is an original concept by Ryszard Kaja, carried out in a somewhat contrary convention, against the well-worn standards of the tourist poster. The posters depict places – not only cities, towns, districts and villages, but also regions, geological relics, nature reserves, national parks and the like – which the artist shows through the prism of personal memories.

 

Ryszard Kaja himself said of the cycle: “I still receive proposals, sometimes even very lucrative ones, requests and encouragements to paint a particular place – NOTHING OF THE KIND! This series is fed by my memories; although these posters are classed as tourist posters, there are almost no spectacular monuments on them. Instead there is my rambling about the country, about its culture, art and language, about what I like, about tradition, sometimes charming and sometimes amusing, about customs, about enchanting places, sometimes little known, without unnecessary embellishment.”
